The Cup o’ Joe Experience

Let’s get one thing straight: we’re not your ordinary caffeine fix.

We leave ordinary to those drive-thru coffee shops that focus on speed over quality. Don’t get us wrong, our baristas are as fast as the other guys, but when you come to Cup o’ Joe, we want you to kick back, relax and enjoy the best cup of coffee in Columbus.

Our obsession with achieving the perfect cup of coffee started at Staufs in 1988 and since our humble beginnings, we’ve researched the coffee you drink right down to the care and cultivation of the plant to the best roast profile for each bean.

Cup o’ Joe’s expert buyers assess and purchase only the most distinctive and delightful beans. From Kenya’s fine acidity and Sumatra’s syrupy body to Costa Rica’s clean flavor, you will taste our expertise in every cup. Take a look at our numerous coffee offerings and you’ll see how far we go to bring you the best cup of coffee in Columbus.

To top that off, our coffee is the freshest in town.  Even though our beans come from around the world, we roast them locally at our Columbus roastery and deliver them to our eight Columbus coffee houses within 48 hours of roasting. We never roast beans before our stores need them—only as the orders come. You also won’t see us selling beans past their prime.

Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup of coffee before work or stopping by to relax or study, we guarantee you’ll taste the difference in our fresh, locally roasted coffee every time. That’s why we were voted 2010′s Best Coffee House in Columbus by Alive, Columbus Monthly and 614 Magazine.

We’re not just another Columbus coffee shop. We’re the best.

At Cup O’ Joe we are obsessed with the entire process of achieving the finest cup of coffee - from acquiring the best green Arabica beans from around the world–to roasting exclusively on gas-fired coffee roasters. All of the specialty coffees we offer are roasted by us, by hand, everyday.

Meet Rich and Tom, the two guys who make our beans happen.

Remember being a kid in science class, grumbling about how you’ll never use any of this stuff?

Hate to say it folks, but when you drink Cup O’ Joe coffee, you’re using all that “science stuff.”  Well, drinking it at least.

Everyday our master roasters (and resident scientists), Rich and Tom, brave breathing coffee bean dust to roast the best beans in Columbus.  And as you can see above, they do it happily.  (While it looks like a mere smirk, for Tom, that is a big smile.)

After roasting, we test the beans using an Agtron Spectrophotometer that uses near-infrared light to measure the color and consistency of all our roasts.

When a batch of beans comes out of the roaster, we take two samples, one whole bean and one ground, and measure each in the Agtron.  The resolution and accuracy of this coffee roast analyzer provides previously unobtainable quantification of the roasting process.     We chart this reading along with the roast time which allows us to maintain regular taste profiles.

Believe us, you can taste the experience of our master roasters in every cup of Cup O’ Joe coffee you drink.

If you’re looking for the top coffee connosieurs in Columbus, look no farther than Rich and Tom, the scientists behind our complex, fresh-roasted taste.

At Cup o’ Joe our flavor isn’t just in our coffee.

Boyd Jarvis, Area Manager

Boyd Jarvis, area manager of Cup o’ Joe and Mojoe, plays a big role in delivering that friendly, relaxing and one-of-a-kind Cup o’ Joe experience and appreciates Cup o’ Joe’s brewing excellence.

“Cup O’ Joe is different because we roast locally,” Boyd said. “Our coffee is delivered to our stores 1 day after roasting.” But the Cup o’ Joe experience goes beyond the coffee and food in front of you. We are locally-owned and heavily involved in each location’s community.

According to Boyd, local matters because it benefits our community while reducing the impact on our environment and also helps support the local economy.

“We have several great relationships with other local business owners,” Boyd said.

Boyd said his favorite part of his job is interacting with customers and staff and building relationship with them on a daily basis.

“It’s something I’m lucky to have the opportunity to do,” Boyd said.

If you’re a customer interested in the brewing the best pot of Cup o’ Joe coffee at home, Boyd has this to say:

“When buying whole bean coffee, we suggest using the product within two weeks of purchase and storing the coffee in an airtight container. We also recommend buying coffee whole bean and grinding it only when ready for use.”

Boyd’s favorite drink is a double shot of espresso he thinks the Carnegie NY Cheesecake is the perfect dessert item.

Keep your eyes peeled for Boyd at your favorite Cup o’ Joe or MoJoe location and say “Hi”.
